How fish oil prevents stroke

Fish oil prevents stroke because it contains omega 3 fatty acids. These acids prevent ischemic strokes in 2 ways. Omega 3 fatty acids help lower the amount of LDL (bad cholesterol) in your body. This is the cholesterol that’s responsible for plaque buildup in arteries. When arteries are narrowed by plaque, they are more likely to get blocked by blood clots.

Our bodies produce only a small amount of omega-3 fatty acids, so most of what we need has to come from eating omega-3 fatty acid-rich foods like fish (salmon, tuna, trout, herring, etc.) or from supplements. Omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to protect against cardiovascular disease, particularly heart attack and stroke.

Omega 3 fatty acids also help thin the blood. The acids keep blood platelets from clumping together while the blood is flowing. This lessens the risk of forming blood clots.

Long after having several Ischemic strokes I can look back and remember my doctor of 10 years ago telling me to stop taking fish oil because I wasn’t taking it every day. He put me on Lipitor which affected my liver negatively almost immediately. I should have gone back to the fish oil, which I am taking faithfully as directed. Add in a good amount of cardio-vascular exercise and an alkaline diet … it has taken care of bringing down my high triglycerides (low hDL and high LDL problem was reversed). Know your numbers – all of them and get tested regularly. STOP drinking acidic beverages — yeah! Do a search for stroke + diet cola+ Feb 8, 2011 L.A. and do some fair warning reading. They don’t know why the diet colas were found to be a factor and it’ll be some time before they have any studies to “prove” or “disprove”. Personally, dbefore the strokes I drank diet colas . I haven’t had any since then … fell in love with Ampalaya, Peppermint, Spearmint, Rioobus, Blood orange, and Kangen or Alkalinated water. Even coconut water. I feel so much better.

You may wish to do some research on Omega 3 – 6 – 9’s to see what each one does. Most Fish Oils are only Omega 3’s and a low dose. http://www.DearPharmacist.com has some great information on what they do and which type to take.

I drink Ampalaya tea as well and love the flavor! I add Stevia to it to sweeten it.
Where Omega’s are concerned I have just read (and need to verify) that we should keep the Omega 6 and the Omega 3 at a 3:1 ratio. Make sure to research about it in advance. Too much of a good thing can have it’s share of not good for you just as much as not having the nutrients can. Interesting the Wiki gives you a list of natural sources and their ratio of Omega’s.

Unfortunately, because our ocean and lakes have been compromised with pollution, scientist warn against the consumption of too much fish oil because the potential toxins could be harmful. This is exactly why we need to be selective in choosing the quality of the fish we eat and supplements we take. Science and researchers don’t always tell us the whole story. When the last time they warned us of the danger in drinking milk or eating beef? Do you know the junk fed to most cows that ends up in our grocery stores. Oh my. That is a whole other story!

Back to fish oil. Reliable source….
