Global Stroke Resource and its founder, stroke survivor and Orlando native Valerie Greene, is dedicated to empowering stroke survivors worldwide and serves as a leader for World Stroke Day, which was established by the World Stroke Organization in 2006 to increase public awareness of the high stroke risk and stroke prevalence worldwide. INTERNATIONAL DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL PRESENTED BY PEPSICO

In honor of World Stroke Day, and to raise stroke awareness, Global Stroke Resource (also known as Valerie Greene's Bcenter) will be participating in the 7th annual Walgreens Orlando International Dragon Boat Festival. Our team name is “Stroke for Strokes". Dragon Boat racing is the world's fastest growing water sport and is also the most exciting. Twenty paddlers move in unison, combining strength with teamwork in a boat whose elaborate design originates in ancient China.Watch news clip

Valerie Greene, Founder of Global Stroke Resource (aka Bcenter), and Nancy DeVault, a Board Member & Consultant, joined Beth Perrell, Public Affairs Director for Cox Media Group (Orlando), for a 30 minute discussion on stroke awareness, including prevention and recovery. Valerie and Nancy urged listeners to participant in Bcenter's three upcoming events, including: Orlando International Dragon Boat Festival (10/18/2014), World Stroke Day (10/29/2014), and #GivingTuesday (12/2/2014).

MEALS ON WHEELS VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION

Valerie Greene, Founder of Global Stroke Resource (Bcenter.com) was the guest speaker for the Annual Volunteer Appreciation held at Heathrow Country Club. Valerie shared her personal story overcoming a massive stroke at age 31 and educated the warnings signs of a stroke and the FAST test to recognize and prevent a stroke.

The mission of Meals on Wheels, Etc. is to enhance the quality of life for young and old by providing appetizing, nutritious meals as well as support services for seniors which enable them to maintain their independence and dignity.



UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI

September 30 2014

Valerie Greene, founder of Global Stroke Resource (Bcenter.com) was invited to participate in the Florida-Puerto Rico collaboration to reduce Stroke Disparities (FL-PR CReSD ) Patient and Caregiver Group.

The FL-PR CReSD is a collaborative effort between the University of Miami and the American Heart Association (AHA) that will provide 1st comprehensive look into race-ethnic, gender and geo-graphic stroke disparities in Florida and Puerto Rico while educating a variety of healthcare providers (physicians, nurses, etc…) in the skills and strategies needed to enhance stroke disparities research and decrease these disparities. ORANGE COUNTY EAST ROTARY CLUB

Aphasia Hope Foundation

The Aphasia Hope Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to aphasia-based research, prevention, and information, published an educational article (authored by Global Stroke Resource / Bcenter) about the summer safety pertaining to heat stroke and stroke. Read the article here


UNITED WAY AWARDS TOP HONOR TO VALERIE GREENE

July 15 2014

The Heart of Florida United Way (HFUW) ─ Central Florida's most comprehensive health & human services charity and largest funder of regional programs ─ hosted its Community Volunteer Excellence Awards on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at the Orlando Shakespeare Theatre. The inaugural event, which received nearly 60 nomination entries for seven award categories celebrated the impact of local volunteerism with a program that included introductions by Robert Brown, HFUW President/CEO; emcee duties by Scott Maxwell, Orlando Sentinel columnist; and entertainment by SAK Comedy Lab.

The “Above & Beyond" award, the evening's top honor and final prize, was presented to two recipients: a company/group and an individual. After Disney Robotics accepted the group award, the packed theatre ─ comprised of philanthropic-minded volunteers, community leaders, and supporters ─ erupted in applause as Valerie Greene was announced as the “Above & Beyond" individual award recipient for her outstanding local and global work as a stroke advocate. ORANGE APPEAL

May 17 2014

Secily Wilson, a Bcenter board member, was featured in Orange Appeal magazine's “Women To Watch" spread (May/June 2014) for her efforts to advocate for heart disease and stroke awareness and prevention. In the article, Secily acknowledges Valerie Greene, Bcenter's Founder/CEO, as her “stroke angel." Shortly after doing a news story on the work of Valerie Greene in her previous role as a news anchor for WKMG Local 6, Secily experienced stroke symptoms on-air during a live broadcast. She immediately recognized the warning signs that her body was displaying thanks to the newfound knowledge that she had just learned from Valerie. Secily believes she is alive today because of Valerie! The two have remained connected and now align with the like mission to save lives through stroke awareness.
